Obama for Peace, WTF?

Category: PoliticsThe Bum @ 4:28 pm

Obama got the fucking Nobel Peace Prize? What the flying fuck!? No seriously, what’s going on in Oslo? Were they that pissed off with Bush that they’d give the person succeeding him the most coveted peace offering in the world? I’d be hard pressed to think they’d have given this to McCain or that nutcase that was with him just for being elected. If this guy had done something in his lifetime, then it would be a different matter. All that’s been done is the American voters elected him into office; give it to them instead for doing the peaceful thing you’re awarding Obama for.

I woke up this morning and saw the news, and thought the Onion had written the most elaborate story of their illustrious career. Wikipedia’s not the most reliable news source, but they’ll usually throw up the information quickly. I saw it there too, then I saw it on more news-lines, and then I saw it on the Nobel Prize site. Being beside myself with any emotion doesn’t convey what’s happened. I think waking up to find that the Yankees moved to Boston would be less surprising. I really am baffled.

I’m graciously offering a silver platter of “What the fuck” garnished with a side of humbug. We have a man who has held the title of President of the United States for less than nine months. Prior to that, he served as United States Senator for three years. Prior to that, he served as Illinois state senator for seven years. This man was unheard of, and a complete unknown to the world prior to running for president. It’s not as if he had been marching around the country or world proclaiming peace from the highest of the mountains. This is a guy who just rode the rocket to the top, and now he’s been given a medal of peace for “extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples”.

There are many people who fit the bill more snugly than Obama in the rationale for the Nobel prize explanation. Puzzling is how it’s also vague. Obama is an eloquent speaker regardless of how many jokes are cracked about his teleprompter usage. But why give this man the prize? This is a man who proclaimed the closing of the Guantanamo Bay prison, but turned face once in office. This is a man who said we’d be out of Iraq and Afghanistan if he were elected, but has maintained and escalated the campaigns respectfully. This is a man who has been proclaiming “Change” from the highest mountain tops, but has only succeeded in pissing off those who voted for him. This is a man who’s demanding health care reform, but won’t even bother bringing doctors into the fold. This is a man who has declared that he’d change everything, but has either maintained the status quo or escalated it at every turn.

The people in Oslo can’t be so blind to this fact. Obama has done nothing to warrant the awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize. The same award given to Martin Luther King and Mother Teresa, two very outspoken people for peace. There must be precedent to such a bogus award, and looking at the laureates I find Yasser Arafat, Yitzhak Rabin, and Shimon Peres being co-recipients in 1994. These guys have been at each other’s throats for longer than anyone cares to imagine. Why give them the peace prize? To shut them up and make nice with each other by giving them a peace award and have them guilt-ridden into upholding the prestige. That’s the only rational reason to apply to their situation.

When you take the reasoning and apply it to Obama, then it becomes a little more understandable. They didn’t give him the award in recognition of something he has done, they’re giving it to him to try and force him to wise the fuck up and practice that which you preach. He goes around the world talking about peace, yet maintains two wars, killing numerous people every day. These are Bush’s wars, but Obama said he’d stop them. He has lied to those who voted him into office. He has lied to the world about peace. He has two-faced the entire populous. Oslo is giving him this award to force his hand, and to uphold what he said he’d do from day one.

Oslo, smooth play; you guys have some serious balls making that move.
